The historic Woodshed Vineyard was planted in 1978 by Jim McDaniels, with 6 acres of own-rooted Pommard under the guidance of Dick Erath and David Lett. It was still early days for the burgeoning Oregon wine industry; the first vines were planted in the Willamette Valley by David Lett only 13 years earlier.
Mike and Robin Murto purchased the vineyard from McDaniels in 1991 and planted an additional 6 acres of Pinot Noir. The Murtos cared for the vineyard for 27 years, supplying several leading wineries with blocks that would be called Murto releases. Over time, these releases developed a devoted following.
Anthony & Lindsay Van Nice purchased the vineyard property from the Murto family in 2018. It was Anthony & Lindsay’s intention to build to a bespoke tasting room experience surrounded by the historic old vines. Today, the Van Nice family lives on the 26 acre property and act as stewards to this important piece of Oregon history almost 50 years in the making.
Visit Woodshed for a complimentary tasting and enjoy our limited-production wines with a spectacular view of our old vines. We have been making wines from our vineyard fruit since 2018, and release wines exclusively to those on our allocation list.
